Trust

He was the kind of friend who she felt safe with. Despite the fact that they grew up in the same town and had gone to the same schools, they did not know each other until a mutual friend introduced them many years later. He was fun and very easy to talk to. His many questions about her life seemed flattering, not intrusive. He was very kind and complimentary and had this way about him that drew people in.

Their friendship grew. She felt comfortable and began to reveal more intimate, painful details of her life. She had been hesitant for so long to address the darker side of the previous years. He was different. She trusted him. This was a difficult feeling because the trust between her and her spouse had been broken. Without trust, the relationship fell apart. How could she trust a man again?
Her friend was a good listener and felt privileged to hear her stories. He helped her create more positive versions and she felt her confidence grow. How good it was to be able to entrust someone with her soul.
