A street minister and book giver

I enter my eightieth lent softly letting do of past practices and regrets. Once I had many of both. My grandmother, my favorite person ever, tried to teach me "What's done is done" and "Let bygones be bygones". These words are deeply a part of me. Partially because my husband of fifty years, Lyle, does not have many regrets. He certainly does not take things as seriously as I do.

The few regrets that cross my mind quickly fade away. Once I was very good at keeping secrets, mine and yours but none are left. You are safe with me.

I am Franciscan, occupied by peace, loving kindness, care of creation and healing, forgiveness and grace. My friend Sandra has her very own quiet and secret street ministry. Sandra is in her 80's. Long retired she volunteers at both the Senior Center and the State Library. She collects books and things and quietly passes them on. Once she asked for my yoga mat, because I was not using it and because she noticed man seeping in a doorway downtown who certainly could use it. Done deal.

I am the beneficiary of several books from Friends Of The Library book sales and currently enjoying "The Cross And The Grail: Esoteric Christianity For the 21st Century" by Robert Elwood. Perfect read for me this Lenten Season. According to Elwood, "Our lives in this world are meant to be spent on the path leading us back to God and the Halls of Light which are our eternal Heartland. Like the prodigal son in the parable, we have left our true home to seek a far country, but as we tire of eating it's "husks", we are led to arise and go to our Father, who is prepared to great us with festival and song. On the course of the journey we encounter many barriers, trails and wonders with which we must deal with all the faith and wisdom we can gather."
