Control Freak

Making random decisions was not his style. Everything was about control. It was easy enough to control his own life, but having total authority over others was, at times, more challenging.

The first wife, then the second, were strong-willed women in their own right, so those unions did not last. Number three was more docile and gullible. She would be easy to control.

Nothing should be random. Everything should be controlled.

He lived with abrasive authority over everything and everyone who entered his life. His narcissism was apparent at first glance, but he could be a gentleman and that’s what drew people in.

When the children grew up and left to further their education, he considered his fatherly task accomplished. Little did he consider that they were content in leaving for the school he chose for them not because it was a good school, but because they would be far away from him and could begin living their own lives and make their own decisions.

The next phase of his life was all planned out: quit the job, leave the wife, move away, live with a mistress. Everything was a conscientious, thought out series of events.

God or some other force had other plans. He was struck down by an infinitesimally small, but essential, failure in his own body. It was something he could not control and it changed all of their lives forever.
