A Great Nation To your mind, what truly makes, or would make, a nation great? As a child of the 1940’s I grew up with Life Magazine, with images of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, of people in German concentration camps, men in the trenches on the European Front. My father was there. We still read Life during the Vietman War and had television by then. I protested. If you would have asked me then I’d say a great nation is at peace within itself and a t peace with the world. That is still true and I would a great nation exists in relationship citizens, all citizens of the world and the environment that sustains us and life around us. A great nation offers full access to all levels of education, birth to death, living wages for all workers, access to quality health care and retirement. Some important factors in making a nation great are choosing fair, honest and intelligent leadership, maintain a strong economy, caring for environment and all creation, being at peace and standing for peace, building and maintaining strong international alliances and providing access to strong educational systems and health care.
