We are all in this together on this earth and our population keeps growing. The air we breathe, the water we drink and share with fish and other life forms and the food we eat now are not always clean and heathy. Pollution is visible here in Washington State, especially in the summer as the forests burn. We are building thirty new houses on land across the street that was a forest just eight months ago. I stood outside with our neighbors in our 1960’s development and grieved as the trees fell. It’s end of March. The is still flooded in part and soggy all over. No houses yet.
Sure we need more housing. And we need our trees. Forests purify the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, prevent erosion and host a huge variety animals and plants. They are a buffer against climate change. I am not a planner. I don’t know the answer. But I like to think there are answers and that someday we can better balance, the environment, politics and the impacts of never ending growth and development.
