Another Day: Another Walk

Ever since Judy and I discovered we live around the corner from each other and Hope, our little terrier discovered Judy; we have been exploring our neighborhood together. Hope is always our guide. We follow her nose. Sometimes it’s a struggle because Hope is addicted to rabbit poop. Occasionally it's a challenge. Hope is so adducted to rabbit poop that she makes herself sick. Did you know “ Bunnies actually make two different kinds of droppings: little black round ones and softer black ones known as cecotropes that are eaten. This process is known as coprophagy, and functions the same as cows chewing their cud.” I suspect Hope eats both types. I’ll be looking closer.

It’s March. Bunnies are early, gophers too and birds. Last week we saw a bald eagle steal a road kill rabbit from a murder of crows and eat it on a branch of a tree in the park across the street.

We often follow people walking their dogs. It seems like stalking but there’s no arguing with Hope. Nose to the ground or scenting the wind she leads us following absolute strangers wherever they happen to be going. No regrets, we have been to amazing places, meet nice people and I know we haven’t seen everything yet

We meet friendly people, find hidden passageways, and have a few adventures like when Archer, a huge Scottish deerhound puppy was off leash at the park across the street and looking for dog to play with. It’s the only time I have ever seen Hope intimidated.

Today we Hope showed us a new neighborhood to explore. From the main road it seemed to be another 1970s cul de sac, But it was cul de sac after cul de sac. Four cul de sacs attached to each other, a maze of 44 houses invisible from the main road.

It’s lunchtime. I am recovering. The gadget on my wrist tells me I have taken 5,814 steps.
