As my life passes, I have learned to become calmer, more level headed. S**t happens in life. It happens to each and everyone of us, sooner or later. We can choose to react in an emotional, hotheaded way, or we can accept things that upset us and not overreact. I believe that we have a CHOICE about how behave.
Some people are impulsive and cannot control their emotions. They make a big deal out of things that, once passed, have very little significance. I am a believer in “this too will pass.”
I’ve already experienced enough in life to know that things don’t always go how I’d like them to and people change. S**t definitely happens.
A few years ago, my car got towed and I flipped out when it wasn’t where I thought I had parked it. I was meeting one of my sons. He was 15 at the time. He told me, “don’t worry mom, s**t happens. We’ll get your car back.” I realized how stupid I was for having reacted badly. I did not see the sign that I parked in a tow zone. I found out where the car had been impounded, we took a bus there, I paid a stiff fine and we went home.
I have never forgotten how my son helped me calm down and put things into perspective. A lot of worse things have happened in my life since then. However, I try to breathe, relax and deal with what ever life throws in my face with calm and, if I’m lucky, a bit of grace. Every second spent being angry is a second of joy lost.
