Why Does Your Wrath Burn Hot?
By: N.L. Skjonsby
I am big believer in fair. I think things should be as fair as possible and as a result, I don’t get mad very often. I also believe that everything is my fault. If something makes me mad or someone does or says something that I don’t like, I think about it until I can come up with a reason that it is all my fault.
So, even when I get angry, it doesn't last. I believe in forgiving fast and moving on. That doesn’t mean I am sucker, or I am willing to be taken advantage of. It just means that I don’t dwell on the negative. This is a learned trait, and I was not always this way, but I have been for long enough that I don’t remember anything else.
An example of something that would have made me angry years ago, but I was able to think through and get over quick is:
My wife told me that early on in our daughter’s marriage, she paid her and her husband’s rent for two months. She didn’t tell me at the time and I had every right to know. My first instinct was to get mad and want to know why she kept this from me. Her explanation was that our daughter didn’t want me to know. I still don’t think that explanation is good enough but I created an atmosphere that made my wife and daughter think they couldn’t tell me this.
My fault.
