Debt Everlasting

my debts are greater than I

the first debt is to the creator of atoms

for those that formed me came from the explosion of stars

an event grander than time space or matter

I could not exist without the sun

for its power gives energy and life to all

and to all that sustains me day to day

plants and creatures give themselves

then there are circles of kin

mother and father that bore me

nurtured me to live in community

siblings to lead the way

The community gave teachers to instruct

health workers to overcome illness

friends to embrace

all humanity to challenge and bless

Loved ones too are owed much

for with them come children and grandchildren

There is joy in new and young energy

hope for the future

I could be nothing without all that is around me

I am in debt

to all

to everything
