Jean

Our next-door neighbor Jean is a retired attorney. She knows everyone in the neighborhood. Jean keeps us organized with introductions, email/phone lists and the block party she has planned for this summer. She knows our stories and our stuff. Jean never hesitates to ask for assistance when she needs it and always offers assistance when we need it and advice whether we need it or not.

Jean is the kind of a neighbor I can go to on a freezing cold winter evening and ask to use her cell phone because my husband Lyle was in Reno at a car show and I locked myself out of the house without a key.

I rang Jean’s doorbell and asked if I could use her cell phone, explaining my situation. Jean might have been annoyed or surprised but she just handed me her phone. I called and Lyle and he told me the door on the left side in the back of the garage, the door we never use, is not locked. Jean climbed with me down a cold, dark, two-foot wide hallway blocked by shelving, a pressure washer and assorted car parts and tools. Sure enough, there on the other side of the garage was a door to the house with a key already placed in the lock.
