Cool My Tongue
By: N.L. Skjonsby
The evolution of my down time has been an instrumental part of my existence. As a child I would play to the point of exhaustion, and dehydration. My imagination would run at an uncontrolled level. I lost track of time, and often ended up in trouble for not listening or not responding to others.
As I grew older my down time interests became sports. Depending on the season I was all in, with baseball being my favorite. In my late teens I discovered surfing and that was all consuming until I met my wife. We married young (19-20) and raised two wonderful children, I missed a lot do to work but wouldn’t change a thing. I allowed myself a 2-hour once a week vice of playing co-ed volleyball at our church on Sunday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
When the kids grew up and left the house I rediscovered fishing and tennis and those became my release. I still enjoy both of those but I have added writing to them. Writing has become my number one escape. While the skill of writing still eludes me the stories come easy.
