How I think about the “What would’ve beens…”
If I had joined the famous mint company I wrote the slogan for back in the 80’s at a brainstorming session, at my director friend’s house (yes, I still have the napkin it was scrawled on along with the first tin box of the now famous mints enclosed in plastic).
Wooo…I’d be rich, rich, rich today.
Somehow, I knew it was sumthin’ special when we created the whole thing so quickly on a couch.
FLOW.
But the films that we were gonna make once we got rich from the mints never happened.
At least not with me.
He never kept his other promise to me either, the one he scrawled on thusly named napkin.
And signed.
However, I was told, by a third party, that my name was in an article in Forbes magazine regaling the famous minteer…
I’ve never had the stomach to search for it.
Still a sore spot I guess.
Tho’ he did try to contact me, out of the blue, about a lunch.
Just before Covid hit.
Interesting.
Then there was the Apparel & Accessories Business I began as a model for, but was so good at selling the clothes I loved wearing during her buyer’s shows, that she offered me a partnership.
And, after that, the camper/classic car dealership I sold for, and was top sales after one month.
Or, the time I was offered a position with the motivational guru of car sales (and other sales businesses) to travel with him & share my techinques.
Or the fortune 500 company that hired me at 21 to inspire their zone managers, and after productivity increased by fifty percent in six months, they offered me a full time position traveling to their offices around the world and implementing the program I taught.
BUT NOOOOOOO…
WHY MAKE MONEY AT THESE EFFORTLESS ENDEAVORS???
WAIT, I KNOW!!
HOW ABOUT BEING AN ACTRESS???
YES!!!
WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!!
With no connections or anyone at all in my small town outside of the ‘burgh who knew anything about being a professional actress.
Instead…I acted on a feeling I had when I was three years old and carried it through thick but mostly thin…turning down all the gifts, I mean obstacles in my way, to pursue a business called show, that is based on someone who has no training or expertise’s opinion of my extensive training and expertise.
Oh, don’t get me wrong… it’s still gonna happen…
So what if I just celebrated my sixtieth year on this planet.
IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!
What exactly?
I don’t know.
