The Lord is near to the brokenhearted

Their god is the belly
and consumes with satisfaction
the broken and contrite hearts.

What is this god that does not
despise our brokenness?
At this moment or that

this god though having proposed
to destroy us
does not do it. They think

that they will be heard
because of their many words
but they are instead

brought near to god
only when broken.
This god of the belly

digests us.
