Mental Pictures

Notepads are strategically placed around the house. My calendar is on my computer, in my cellphone and on the pages of the little blue organizer I try to remember to carry with me. I read mostly second hand books that do not mind a few pencil marks. Homemade bookmarks are strategically placed near every comfortable chair.

Sometimes I remember the past better than the present. I read email at least twice a day and red flag what I want to remember. Everything else is filed or deleted. My new normal has arrived, put down roots and reorganized my life. Now that I have been diagnosed, I am becoming more comfortable telling people I don’t remember.

Often now, when I pick up and move an item from one place to another, I snap a metal picture and practice retrieving it from its new spot. I have Alzheimer’s, not as severe as my mother did in her late eighties. I have always been a bit careless, forgetful or what my grandmother would call absent minded but I am paying attention now, seeking more interactions with people and getting more exercise. I want to continue challenging myself.

I am so thankful for these 40 days and these 40 writes.
